George W. Bush

George W. Bush, son of the 41st president and governor of Texas, won the presidency in 2000 after one of the closest and most disputed elections in history, decided by the Supreme Court.

His presidency was defined by the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, which he answered with the 'War on Terror,' invading Afghanistan and, in 2003, Iraq. He enacted major tax cuts and expanded Medicare and federal education standards. His second term was battered by the Iraq war's difficulties, the response to Hurricane Katrina, and the 2008 financial crisis.
